All in all a cool experience. Not a big fan of flying and my french is ashamedly poor, so I was looking forward to the trip with some trepidation.
I flew out on tuesday, went to collect my bags and there was Trent Reznor and a couple of other people (not the band) getting their baggage just over from me (i assume they had just come in from Barcelona). I nipped over and spoke briefly with him, he was a really polite. In hindsight i feel bad for harassing him on a day off, but i've never met him before and may never have again so felt compelled to go say hello.
Don't know if there was a spiral meet and greet, thought i'd make the most of my time and check out Paris. Beautiful city and the Louvre was amazing.
Got to the venue without my spiral membership (hasn't been posted yet) and thought i'd have my work cut out trying to explain this in french. Tried talking to the doorman, between us we agreed on the word fan, which he found funny and sent me straight in... result.
Then the gig, which was top quality and a good setlist too. Seeing Last live has made my mates sick with envy and I thought survivalism worked well live. Its the first time i've seen Josh Freese in the band, definately a good addition. Good gig, good trip, roll on Nottingham, Birmingham and Wolverhampton...
I loved Paris, it was a beautiful city – I’m so glad I went.* I got to see so much and have all these new ideas for work.* To all the Paris Spiral, you have a beautiful city!* I loved the Louvre and Notre Dame!* Pere Lachaise and the Opera Garnier were amazing too!
Then there were the shows – I still can’t believe I got to see Nails in Paris!* My two favorite things, traveling and the band!* It was so nice to meet some of you!* Paris Nails fans are awesome – you were all so sweet.* It was nice to see Brandi again too!* Heh, I didn’t think she’d be back – especially for Europe.
Heh, I had an embarrassing moment the day before the show I feel I must confess with you all.* I was video taping the streets of Paris – because I am insane and need to film everything (I took over a 1000 photos).* I came to cross a street and the light was red.* A guy with long black hair caught my eye, as guys with such hair normally do.* I couldn’t help but think to myself that this man sure looked a lot like Jerodie standing in front of a hotel.* I kept looking thinking yeah he does look like him – all the while, not noticing the black van next to him with tinted windows with more long blacked haired boys and a young man who looked an awful lot like the guy who’d been pointed out to me months earlier as TR’s assistant – climbing out of the van carrying luggage.* Finally the Slow Burn of it hit me, and I realize that – not only was I staring, but the people in the van seemed to be looking in my direction and laughing.* Well, thankfully just then the light changed and I crossed the street as quick as I could and kept going!* I hope they didn’t see my staring how embarrassing!
I have to say though, goofy as it is – I sure felt a lot better having seen the band just then.* I had no contact with the internet or my friends back home.* I was a bit worried the show could get cancelled or Trent could get hit by a bus (Just like Juliet’s husband in "Lost") and I would not know!* And weird as it is, Jeordie White was the first familiar face I’d seen in five days in a foreign country where I barely spoke the language – so It was kinda nice to know I was no longer a lone in some small way – weird right?!* Well after that silly glimpse of the band I went to the Eiffel tower.* I rode the elevator to the top after it got dark.* That was wild – It was like being on a space ship!* I loved it.* Then I had to go back to the hotel and get ready for the show the next day.* How fun!
Out of the two Paris shows, I enjoyed the setlist at the first show the most (SICNH and Survivalism, gotta love that) The Spiral line was huge, I had no idea there were that many French Spiralers (I guess hardly any of them post here) It was nice to meet some of you, though, although I couldn't understand most of what any of you were saying (very few of the French seemed to speak English, I even had to buy stamps using my body language. It was pretty hilarious, but frustrating at the same time ) I was on the front row at both shows, NIN rocked my socks off and I left bruised and happy
bibi~ If you must post the pic I was in, please cut me out of it, allright? lol (you're more than welcome to send it to me by PM, though I haven't developed the pic of you and your friend yet, but when I do I'll make sure to scan it and send to ya.
Twiggy_le_dechu~ I'm sorry I didn't go out the back door with you guys, I had no idea where it was, plus I was so tired and beaten up I just wanted to go back to the hotel and take a shower and get some rest (I was literally SOAKED in other people's sweat, it was fucking disgusting. haha) It was cool that you got to meet Aaron, though. lol.
